Anyone who speaks several musical languages does not necessarily have to commit to one. Theresia Philipp understands this just as well: her double trio project Pollon with Strings unites different tonal traditions without hierarchy.

The core line-up consists of Philipp (saxophone & clarinet), David Helm (bass) and Thomas Sauerborn (drums). The inclusion of a string trio expands the line-up to a double trio. Philipp composed and arranged the pieces for this project. Musically, the project covers several fields: Philipp processes liturgical chants of the Orthodox Church (for example in "Trishagion") as well as a newly interpreted "Our Father" prayer. At the same time, there are modern, very precisely composed passages ("Secret Reality") and pieces that thematise dizziness ("Vertigo") or the search for truth ("Simple Truth").

Much of the music is carefully composed and played with great discipline. Sometimes the music is full of free spaces, which are just as disciplined, ambiguous and multilingual. pollon with strings is not a mere addition of different things, but a coming together, a musical event of great coherence, which has its strengths in ambiguity.
