Verbindungen schaffen: Zwischen Menschen, Klängen und Kunstformen.

“In my music itself, I’m always looking for the most honest way to translate my observations, thoughts and feelings into sound”, Emily Wittbrodt said in an interview. In make you stay, her own project founded in 2022, the cellist and composer brings together established musicians from the experimental pop and improvisation scene and allows baroque forms, experimental improvisation and melancholic texts to meet.

Born in Bonn in 1994, Wittbrodt began playing the cello at the age of five and soon added singing and piano lessons. Between 2012 and 2022, she studied classical cello, jazz cello and early music in Essen, Helsinki, Florence and Cologne. In 2015, she founded and organised the interdisciplinary festival “es wird sogar schön” with other students in Essen. This period also saw Wittbrodt’s increasing focus on experimental and improvised music.

Wittbrodt is currently active in various projects: these include schoerken wittbrodt, Ludwig Wittbrodt, hilde and Ephemeral Fragments. These bands, which are based on democratic and feminist principles, are characteristic of her artistic work. Wittbrodt has also been working with international dance ensembles for several years, culminating in 2021 with the production of music for a location-specific performance at the Musée de l’Orangerie in Paris. “For me, it’s always about creating connections - between people, sounds and art forms. It’s this permeability that interests me”, says Wittbrodt. In addition to regular concerts and festival appearances in Europe and Canada since 2020, Wittbrodt has released albums on labels such as Ana Ott, Umland Records, Boomslang Records and Impakt Records.
